Jeshi – girls and boys
East London rapper Jeshi has shared “girls and boys”, the third single from his forthcoming mixtape headrush, via Select Discs. It follows “champagne” and “at the wheel”, with the project described as a celebration of the regional club in all its forms.
The subject matter here is specific: the club toilet queue. Not the dancefloor, not the bar, but that particular stretch of corridor where strangers end up in unexpectedly honest conversations for three minutes and then never see each other again. It’s a small and accurate observation, and Jeshi wrings something genuinely affecting out of it. The track captures that kind of fleeting connection that nightlife produces and then immediately dissolves. There’s something quietly sad about it, even when the music doesn’t push you toward that conclusion.
